Wei-Jin Period is not only a rare troubled time of Chinese history, but also a rare period of academically drastic change in Chinese history. People who lived in this period suffered great pains. And being as intellectuals in this period, they suffered greater pains than any others and were more desperate, because they must face up to the pains of national division, political unrest, wars and vagrant life. And more importantly, they were required to respond to the troubled time in thoughts and answered the new questions put forward in this period.Under the drive of this external reason, the academy of Wei-Jin Period had an earthshaking change. The traditional Confucian classics were challenged greatly, and people didn't find ways of saving the troubled time from them, say nothing of getting mental console. Therefore people moved their eyes to Lao Zhuang, and there appeared the fusion of Confucianism and Taoism, and the revival of Huang Lao. Yi-ology in this period was also influenced by thoughts of Lao Zhuang and had changed greatly from traditional symbol and mathematics to Yi Li-ology. Wang Bi is the most important representative in this period. That is to say, if we talk about the Yi-ology of Wei-Jin period, we probably refer to Wang Bi. The masters of Yi-ology in this period paid their more attention to the dispute of ymbol and mathematics with Yi Li-ology. Ruan Ji who was the famous intellectual also had his own study of Yi-ology, but he didn't focus on the dispute of ymbol and mathematics with Yi Li-ology but on the answer to the new problems with the more intuitive method. In his Proficiency in Zhou Yi, Ruan Ji interpreted the causes of social unrest, the methods of saving the troubled time and how to save his own skin by elucidating the sixty four guas. According to him, the main reason for the social unrest was the absence of holy sovereign. Only by the holy sovereign could turn the tide. He also described the holy sovereign in detail. At the same time he put forward some means of save one's own skin, specifically being humble, being cautious and being moderate. He explained these means from the point of heaven way, and argued that people were good when obeyed the heaven way, and bad when disobeyed. If we saw Wang Bi's Zhou Yi Annotation as the response to the metaphysics, Ruan Ji's Proficiency in Zhou Yi was an more intuitive response. He attempted to answer the new problems by interpreting Zhou Yi, and maybe we have found the answers in his lines. Facing up to the troubled time, he yearned for a holy sovereign to turn the tide. A an individual in the troubled time, he also put forward his own means of anchor of his life and spirit.
