LvYing(1915-1969)is an influential contemporary literary aesthete, literary critic. During the Great Discussion of Aesthetics in 1950s, he received much attention from theory circle with creative and unique esthetics viewpoints, as well as developed a new direction for contemporary aesthetics which made an indelible contribution to the development of Chinese aesthetics. The core of Ying's aesthetics ideology is realistic thought which is characterized by "truthfulness" and "poetic quality".This paper attaches great importance to this issue for two reasons: Firstly, Ying's esthetics viewpoints in particular his researches on nature of beauty were misunderstood by theorists in a long time , which made his thoughts lose the proper value, and made it difficult to understand his contribution in the process of investigation to Chinese aesthetics. Therefore, making objective analysis about Ying's aesthetics ideology is necessary in order to help us understand his definition of the nature of art in the right way, and to show the authenticity of his aesthetics. Secondly, before LvYing has being well known as an aesthete , he has made considerable achievements in literary theory, but his research are not concerned by the reasons of the history and the age. In view of these, a comprehensive research on Ying's literary theory which is featured by realism is required.Therefor, this paper focuses mainly on three respects: Firstly, the sources of Ying's literary theory. Secondly, the features of his literary theory. And at last, the relationship between art and politics. Besides the recognition of Ying's contribution to Aesthetics, we would also find out the contradictions in his thoughts and the limitation of his certain era.
