Of Technology And Human Freedom

With the rise and development of modern technology, major changes are woven into human surviving ways, therefore mankind began to enter a new era of technological existence. There is a close relationship between existence and development of human and technology. But such characteristics of modern technology as instrumental reason, ascendance and dilatancy are the core nature of human realizing and ensuring the actual power of human freedom. On the other hand, as the destroying power, modern technology makes human facing an existent strait, which breaks the balance between physical property and human nature at the beginning of technology creation. Therefore, it is important to have a fundamental rethink the relationship between technology and human freedom and technological existence.The paper makes a deep research on the relationship between technology and human freedom from two aspects: logics and history. The whole thesis consists of four parts: firstly, the first part is an introduction which offers an overview of the research object, it introduces the selecting basis, purposes and reasons of the study, literature review in China and abroad and also presents the research methods and instruction.Chapter one: From the way of contrary theory of contemporary technology: technique is not only the strength corroborating mankind but that of the self-destruction of mankind. First, it reviews alienation question of technique for the person's freedom. From the visual angle of technique anthropology, it introspects into technical existence restricting and suppressing freedom of person.And it pays more attention to the relationship between human and technique in the fields of theory of technical determinism and the technological alienation. The former considers technique as freedom—a physical freedom; the later regards it as a chains of freedom and denies physical freedom, so freedom on mind is a real one. After analyzing, this paper makes a conclusion that determinist and alienatist understand technique partially and even extremely. They both singly stress or neglect human subjectivity, and the key is not object, but person that is the essential factor causing contradiction between technique and human freedom.Chapter two: it emphasizes corroboration of technique on freedom and makes a elaboration at two levels of material and mind that human nature is to pursuit the existence of freedom. The processes of technique development and person's pursuit of freedom are symbiosis. Human created technique and human freedom at the same time in the progress of pursuit of freedom. This part mainly analyzes the relationship between realization of physical freedom and technique and that between freedom, as a field of mind, and technique.The third chapter makes a historical analysis on the relationship between technique and human freedom from angle of generative theory. In the process of development of human freedom, human, technique and practice kept step. When evolution process from ape to man was ended, people is being in the process of technique development. Technicalization of human and humanization of technique are two correlating impersonal historical process. This is not a logical deduction, but a actual existence.Three historical stages, from a pre-modern society represented as hand tools to the mechanization of machines as a symbol of industrial society and then to the post-information on manufacturing modern information society, embodys three aspects. First, they reflect the change of the methods in the combination of technology and human beings. And they also characterize the change of the relationship of technology and human's freedom. Second, the unskilled freedom, technology-oriented freedom and the freedom beyond technology can be traced in the three periods respectively. At the same time, they also characterize the periods of the combination and deviation of technology and human beings, and technological regression of human nature. Though the historical and logical analysis above, we can propose the following points clearly. Two aspects, the development and production of technology, and the breadth and depth of technological development are due to human being's nature of comprehensive development and the unceasing pursuit of freedom. What's more, human are the starting point and the destination of technology. And we can't be determined by technology. On the contrary, we choose it. During the process, it promotes the development of technology and people. And then our freedom is realized. It paves the way for the current technological development, the Reflection Technology, human being's technological survival and also looking for a reasonable way to technological development for human beings.
