J.R.R. Tolkien is the earliest founder of the modern fantasy, also is one of the writers who has the most significant impact on fantasy in the world. His creative work not only initiate a whole new literature genre, which takes the age-old myths into itself, but also has the same tendency with the modern mythology literature. The aim of this paper is to do a thorough research on Tolkien's legendary work the Lord of the Ring from the perspective of modern myths.Myth, from ancient times to present day, is not just a form of literature, but a organic mode for the modern writers observing their life and understanding the world. The twentieth century is a century called "Myth Renaissance". Besides various kinds of mythologies and critical theories, even in field of literature the myths became alive. Tolkien who started his work in the 1930s unavoidably been influenced by this literature trend, which to cause his work like myth obviously. For Tolkien, the myth tendency in the Lord of the Ring, not only release his imagination, but also help him get rid of the modern civilization, return to the home of his soul.This paper analyses the material, the prototype and the theme etc. of Tolkien's the Lord of the Ring ,hoped through the overview of the influence of myth on Tolkien, getting a more sober and comprehensive understanding of the Lord of the Ring.
