Meme Terms Perspective Non-term Phenomenon And Its Process

Memetics is a new theory to explain the law of cultural evolutionism based on Darwinian Evolutionism. It is able to interpret the universal relations, from diachronic and synchronic perspectives, and the law of cultural evolutionism which believes culture is inheritable. Memetics is also a new theory about meme. The concept"Memetics"was firstly brought up in《The Selfish Gene》written by an Oxford biologist Richard Dawkins in 1976. The word"meme"was coined from"gene". While gene is proliferated by heredity, meme, the basic unit of culture, is transmitted through imitation. It is the virus of thought, and any ideas, claims and practices have the potential to be meme. In real life, meme can be found everywhere. Therefore when a phenomenon occur and be transmitted, we can identify it's the result of meme. Originated in 1930s, terminology had already been recogonized internationaly as an indipendent comprehensive subject in the early 70s. The enhanced position of terminology in the science circle in its later development kept terms of all kinds spreading, which finally led to the non-term phenomenon. It, as a language phenomenon, is an important study object for terminology. With the development of society, the non-term phenomenon is able to exert more influence on people's life. We can conclude that the immergence and popularization of this phenomenon is the result of meme. Thus this thesis makes an attempted analysis of the non-term phenomenon from the perspective of memetics. The purpose of this study is to explore the internal mechanism of non-term phenomenon through meme theory.This thesis rendered memetics as the theoretical basis, amd the non-term phenomenon as its research object.This thesis is consisted of three parts, namely the perface, the main body and the conclusion.The preface introduced the status quo of the combined research of memetics and non-term phenomenon and indicated the research object, content, significance and methods of this thesis.The main body was futher divided into four chapters:The first chapter introduced the theoretical foundation of this thesis– memetics, including its definition and current development.The second chapter elaborated the non-term phenomenon's definition, characteristics, application and status quo.The third chapter, focusing on the relationship between the life cycle of meme and the non-term phenomenon, analyzed the two corresponding models and identified their internal relations.The fourth chapter described the standard of a successful meme, and analyzed the non-term phenomenon under the influence of a successfui meme. The analysis mainly focused on two aspects: what role can first a successful meme and second strong meme and strengthened weak meme play in transforming a term into an non-term.Then the thesis concluded that the internal process of non-term phenomenon is completed under the influence of memes. The terms that can become non-terms are strong memes or strengthened weak memes.Finally the conclusion of this thesis summarized all of the content and expounded the theoretical value and practical significance of this study.
