This article takes American history as background, researching and studying the"American Dream"in certain American literature work in the Progressivism Era on the basis of older researchers'work.."American Dream"is a conception that develops, expands, complex constantly, studying a single work would destroy the dynamic conception. Only in the condition that we take different writers'work as a whole part and research them according to American history that we can grasp the entire developing context of the"American Dream"conception.This whole article could be divided into 2 main parts:1,We can tell the developing context of the"American Dream"clearly according to the two cogitation trends from the former types of American immigrations——the gold digger and the puritans, the political spirit from Declaration of Independence——people were born equal and each person has the right to pursue happiness, the influence on culture of Transcendentalism and Franklin——pursuing pure spiritual freedom and struggle in social life. We can clearly see that there are two repeatedly struggled core elements that promote"American Dream"move forward, the eager of occupying wealth and social status, the eager of pursuing spiritual freedom.2,This article takes a deep analysis of the work of Mark Twain, Jack London, Dresser, Fitzgerald.
