The thesis is on the research of the employment status and constraints of the U.S. women in the period from the 1960s to 1980s. During this period, the number of U.S. women in the labor market showed to be surged and employment areas to be expanded. But they still face much challenge, the underlying gender segregation behind the employment growth and the wage differentials between men and women are still prevalent. Therefore, this paper put the women's economy status and value in the labor market as a starting point to study the tremendous changes of U.S. women's employment patterns and the employment participation rate, and thus further recognize the employment trends of American society which is oriented on free.The preface mainly introduces the research background, topic based, current research situations at home and abroad, research methods and issues such as the shortcomings of the article.The first part is based on a large mounts of data, discussing the changes of U.S. women's employment status since the early twentieth century, focusing on the age characteristics, marital status and industry distribution of the urban female in the labor market in the 60 to 80 years, thus showing the overall trend of female employment during this period.The second part analyzes the causes of female employment growth on four respects. They are the economic structural change of the American society at the progress of scientific and technological, the popularization of education to provide good external conditions for women, and thanks to the second feminist movement, women's sense of independence continue to wake under the economic pressure. The factors between the emergence of a large number of employment opportunities and women initiatively required to go to the labor market promote each other, making the female employment become a prominent phenomenon at this period.The third part discussed the constraints of female employment from three aspects. They are the role of women and their own characteristics, gender discrimination in employment and employers'profit-oriented principle. From which the gender discrimination from the outside is the main reason that women seek employment.The conclusion summarizes the whole paper and points out the gender discrimination behind the American women's employment growth in this period which is long and deeply entrenched, and it become the main reason of restricting women's employment. It also points out the reference to solve the employment problems of our country.
