With the development of the international academic exchange, the research article (RA) has become an effective way of communication. The research article introduction, as an integral and opening part of the research article (RA), plays a crucially important role for its especial function and has been studied for decades. For the researchers, one of the factors that can be regarded as the standard evaluating their academic achievement is their publication of thesis, and it is believed that, to some extent, the quality of the introduction has great impact on whether the thesis can be published in a high-quality journal, so many researchers have become increasingly interested in the research article introduction.A number of interdisciplinary studies and cross-language researches have been concerned in the multiple relevant aspects, and have gained a great success. However, rare contrastive studies on the discourse level have been conducted from the perspective of genre analysis and interpersonal function. The CARS (CREATE A Research Space) modal, a widely recognized and frequently applied modal for introductions, has not been identified sensitive enough to capture the features of research article introductions in economics. In light of systemic functional linguistic and under the guide of genre analysis, the present study, based on two data-driven corpuses composed of 50 Chinese RA introductions and 50 English ones, makes a contrastive analysis of the research article introduction in both corpuses. Through the discussion, we conclude that there are differences in the choice of title and the introduction length on graphological level. It is also found that there is a difference on macro- and micro-structures between the Chinese and English introductions, finally, the difference in realization of interpersonal function in both corpuses is also offered in hope of better understanding the writers' different methods of establishing the relationship with the readers.
