The Research On Qinhuai Lantern's Artistic Value And Its Innovative Design In Modern Society

Chinese lantern is one of the most unique cultural artistic objects in Chinese history. Due to the regional and social custom reasons, Chinese lantern has been developing into various stylish forms. In China, QinHuai lantern takes it remarkably elegant style, recognized as the slogan:"East or west,QinHuai Lantern is the best". QinHuai lantern has been considered as one of the most distinguishing features from Nanjing‐‐‐a 2500 years old historical city. The vitality of QinHuai Lantern has added a delicate colour on the picture of Nanjing Culture.This article analyses Nanjing QinHuai Lantern in a multi‐subject manner. It combines and compares the theory from aesthetics, philosophy, semiology, chromatology, folklore and design psychology etc…and associates those elements to create a new innovative system. The entire article has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter of this article gives the introduction to lead the idea of the research and the innovative viewpoint of the topic. The second chapter of this article introduces the history and the development of QianHuai Lantern, records the unique techniques of this ancient handcraft. Analyses the fabrication idea from the Chinese traditional fabrication concept point of view, preserves relatively integrated records for the current QinHuai Lantern investigation. The third chapter of this article emphasizes the research on QinHuai Lantern's artistic value, as well analyses the visual elements such as modelling, colouring, detail handling technique based on the theory from the second chapter of the article. In this chapter, the author also discusses the significance of researching on QinHuai Lantern for the purpose of inherit traditional Chinese culture. In the fourth chapter, the author elaborates the current problems in preserving the QinHuai Lantern and developing the traditional Lantern industry. The last chapter gives the suggestion on aforementioned problems, and then via the discussion to extend in meaning of QinHuai Lantern's innovative design, develops the traditional handcraft art to suit the modern society.In the phase of economic and cultural globalization, the traditional social‐economic environment has been more or less changed to suit the modern world better. According to that, it is critical that the traditional handcraft industry needs to advance in order to meet the need of the market and achieve profitability. This article emphasizes and records the artistic value of the QinHuai Lantern. Meanwhile,the author recommends, for the sake of preserving the traditional QinHuai Lantern, need more people involved, with the assistance of innovative design we can bring this specifically exquisite culture into the new era.
