Research On The Influence Of Insight Problem Solving Based On Different Regulatory Focus

Insight is one of the most important parts of psychological and cognitive aspects ofcreativity, many innovative inventions and discoveries generated through the process ofinsight. How to improve the ability of insight problem solving, how to strengthen theability of independent innovation, is always the issue people care about. This study startwith regulatory focus theory, trying to discuss the influence of insight problem solvingbased on chronically regulatory focus and situationally induced regulatory focus.This study contains three experiments, and the dependent variable was the socrecoding of individual's behavior in the insight problem solving test. The test was composedby two components: puzzles of Chinese character and chunk decomposition of Chinesecharacters. Puzzles of Chinese character focused on the process of restructuring. But chunkdecomposition of Chinese characters focused on the process of chunk decomposition.Experiment1focused on the influence of chronically regulatory focus effect onindividual's behavior in the insight problem solving test. Experiment2focused on theinfluence of situationally induced regulatory focus and the difficulty of the task effected onindividual's behavior in the insight problem solving test. Experiment3dicussed howchronically regulatory focus and situationally induced regulatory focus affectedindividual's behavior in the insight problem solving test.Some conclusions had been elicited through this study:1. Both chronically regulatory focus and situationally induced regulatory focusplayed a significant role in individual's behavior in the insight problem solving test.Promotion focus individual's insight problem solving ability, no matter what based onchronicaly regulatory focus or situationally induced regulatory focus, is significantlyhigher than that of prevetion individuals. 2. Difficulty of situationally induced task difficulty affected the ability ofindividual's behavior in the insight problem solving test and individuals under lowdifficulty did much better than individuals under high difficulty.3. There was an interaction between situationally induced task difficulty andsituationally induced regulatory focus on insight problem solving and an interactionbetween promotion focus and prevention focus on insight problem solving.4. Chronically promotion focus individual under the framework of situationallyinduced promotion focus, the ability of the behavior in the insight problem solving test wassignificantlly enhanced. Chronicaly prevention focus individual under the framework ofsituationally induced prevention focus, the ability of the behavior in the insight problemsolving test was significantlly weakened. Regulatory fit appeared in the experiment.
