Experiment Study On SNARC Effect

SNARC effect has been the hot topic of cognitive psychology. Many researches onSNARC effect focus on figure, few about non-figur SNARC effect.This study usedtemporality nouns of ordered as stimulus which are less familiar than absolute temporalitynouns (February,March), combined with the classic paradigm on SNARC effect and usedERP technology.The study is consisted of two experiments:Experiment1explore itself with temporality time-nouns of ordered (the aged-nouns:Infancy, Childhood, Juvenile, Youth, Maturity, Midlife, Senium) to investigate whetherthere exists SNARC effect,the task was to judge the presented stimulation earlier or laterthan youth. Experiment2explore the temporary temporality time-nouns of ordered(theplace-nouns:Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Kunshan, Shanghai)toinvestigate whether there exists SNARC effect,the task was to judge the presentedstimulation earlier or later than Wuxi.The main findings of the study are as follows:(1) Temporality nouns of ordered can produce SNARC effect.Both judgement of itselfwith temporality time-nouns of ordered (the aged-nouns) and the temporary temporalitytime-nouns of ordered(the place-nouns) produce SNARC;(2) Temporality nouns of ordered can produce Distance effect;(3) The activation of left hemisphere is larger than right hemisphere in the process ofthe place-nouns getting time righteousness.
