A Study On Deviated Rhetoric Reception

The present thesis analyzes the deviated rhetoric reception based on Reception Theory. The deviated rhetoric surpasses and violates the normal language in language combination and collocation. The surface of the deviated rhetoric may be irrational, but it implies abundant information in its deep structure. It does not aim at persuasion but delivers the expressers'exact feelings and emotions.The thesis holds that in the course of decoding the deviated rhetoric, the reception contexts must be analyzed firstly because the contexts determine the production of the language meanings. The thesis analyzes the linguistic contexts and non-linguistic contexts which deviated rhetoric reception relies on. The linguistic contexts vary from the phonic to the text, and the non-linguistic contexts contain situational context, cultural context and the receiver's cognitive context. These contexts affect the decoding results of the deviated rhetoric information greatly.The thesis finds that different receivers may adopt various reception measures because of their different cognitive abilities in the deviated rhetoric reception process. The thesis classifies the reception measures into adaptable reception and deviated reception according to whether the receiver follows the expresser's intention. Adaptable reception refers that the receiver follows the expresser's intention while deviated reception refers that the receiver does not follow the expresser's intention entirely in the reception process. According to whether the receiver possesses his previous experience, the reception measures are divided into static reception and dynamic reception. In the static reception the receiver decodes the deviated rhetoric originally and his reception activities are away from others'influence, but the reception may deviate from the exact expression intention. In the dynamic reception the receiver intends to link his present reception with his previous receptions experience and reconstructs a new reception starting point to pursuit more implied deviated rhetorical information. In the decoding process, the receiver does not adopt only one reception measure but some other measures in a combined way. However, in most cases the receiver will adopt the deviated reception and the dynamic reception. In decoding the deviated rhetoric, the receiver may depend on various reception contexts and reception measures, thus the reception activities may display different characteristics which lie in individuality, sociality and selectivity.The thesis insists that the receiver must take into consideration the reception contexts which affect the information decoding, and choose the deviated reception and dynamic reception which can activate the receiver's subjective creativity so as to comprehend the expresser's intention more effectively because the active and creative reception can stimulate the unceasing creation of the language expression.
