Wang Anyi and Fangfang are the significant,unique authoresses in the contemporary chinese literature field. Although Wang Anyi's The Song of Everlasting Sorrow and Fangfang's Shui's Life in the Turbulent Times was published respectively in 1995 and 2008,both of the novel are narrate a city's historical change by narrating the destiny of the tragic figures. However, these two authoresses'narrative style differs from the traditional way of narration. Owing to the authoress's different personality,temperament,life experience and thought,Wang Anyi focuses her narration more on the description of the daily life but Fangfang centers more on the legendary life of the heroine. In order to appreciate the novel more profoundly, the thesis discusses the two authoresses'way of writing by analyzing and comparing The Song of Everlasting Sorrow and Shui's Life in the Turbulent Timeson the basis of the narrative theory.The Introduction states the recent study about Wang Anyi and Fangfang and the two famous novels. It introduces the reasons of writing this thesis. Besides, this chapter points out the similar motivation and intention of the two novels. And interpretat the "Daily" and "legend" concept, briefly explained the evolution of two kinds of narrative tradition.Chapter One, Reason of Creation. This chapter presents the literary inheritance relationships between the two authoresses'writing style and the traditional way of narration. It also discusses the cause of the two authoresses'narrative style by analyzing the different family background and region culture of them.Chapter Two, Construction of Narrative Time and Space. This chapter begins to analyze the novel. In The Song of Everlasting Sorrow, authoress describes three important time periods of the heroine in her lifetime in order to stress the everlasting theme in the turbulent and changeable times----Daily life. Furthermore, the usage of describing the private space of heroine confines her activities within a limited scope successfully. On the contrary, in Shui's Life in the Turbulent Times, Fangfang chooses to present the legend of humanity through narrating crisis in the turbulent chaos. So, the space in this novel mostly is the public where could offer excellent opportunity for the appearance of legend.Chapter Three, Human Relationships. This chapter analyzes the novel from characters and human relationships. In The Song of Everlasting Sorrow, costume and diet are the major subjects narrated by the authoress to show the society and life in that time. Due to Wang Qiyao's embarrassed identity, the mild and obedient heroine dedicates her lifetime to struggle to maintain her delicate life standard and peace of mind. But, Shui's Life in the Turbulent Times presents the complication of humanity. The smart, tough and rebellious personality made Shui Shangdeng's unusual life is full of twists and turns..Chapter Four, Structure of Narration.The Song of Everlasting Sorrow seems more like an essay because it is full of lively details of daily life. It replaces the traditional way of narration with describing the common private life scenes. However, Shut's Life in the Turbulent Times demonstrates authoress's pursuing to plot, because it fully catches readers' eyes by arranging intricate structure, changeable destiny of character and a serial of suspense.In addition to discuss the renovation of Wang Anyi and Fangfang's novel to the traditional way of writing in narration briefly, the conclusion also points out the practical significance of these two narrative style.
