Shostakovich's "24 Preludes and Fugues" which is a shining star in the flourishing music history of the twentieth century, featuring a rich variety of skills in both creation methods and piano performance. By detail analysis and study of this part of works, this article has made an induction and generalization to the creation methods and piano performance skills in composer's works. The article has been divided into three chapters:The first chapter is mainly introduced the composer's life experiences and music style feature by dividing his piano works into three periods, and drawing a conclusion to the features in his piano music style. The second chapter has analyzed the composer's creation methods from the aspects of melody, mode and tonality characters, harmony styles. The third chapter is dealing with the analysis on the main points of piano performance:theme, tempo, dynamics and pedals. By analysis on composer and the aspects of his music style, piano music works, composition and performances, the author expects to figure the artistic value of this piano music works, and makes us to have a deeper understanding of Shostakovich's piano creations, music style as well as the vocabulary and emotions of piano music in the twentieth century.
