Chen Mingzhi is a famous composer,polyphony theorist and music educator in China.In his 60 years of creative career,Chen Mingzhi has created many unique and distinctive musical works.Among these works,polyphony occupies an important position.“Preludes & Fugues” is one of the most representative works of him,which intensively summarizes and demonstrates the research achievements made by Chen Mingzhi in the field of polyphony.Each work in this album embodies the combination and exploration of Chen Mingzhi's traditional ethnic music and modern polyphony techniques.Yu Suxian is a famous polyphony theorist,musical educator and composer in China.As an admired polyphonist educator,Yu Suxian has a lofty academic status in China.In the teaching practice of Yu Suxian,she summarized a set of polyphony teaching system with Chinese characteristics and extensive inclusiveness,which has had a profound impact on the domestic polyphony education.“24 Piano Fugues and Creation Analysis” is an important part of her polyphony teaching system,this work combines polyphony theory with creative practice and deepens the understanding of polyphony theory through creation.This thesis takes Chen Mingzhi's “Preludes & Fugues” and Yu Suxian's “24 Piano Fugues and Creation Analysis” as the research objects,and tries to find the common character and personality of the two composers' music creation through the analysis and summarization of these two Chinese folk style fugue works.The first chapter of this thesis introduces the background and gives a brief overview of the composers and their works.The second and third chapters are the key chapters.The second chapter is the overall structure study,in which the two albums are analyzed from the perspectives of the fugue themes,structural analysis,tonality and harmony.The third chapter focuses on comparing and summarizing the contrapunctus techniques of the two albums in terms of comparison and imitation.In the last chapter,by analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences in composing techniques and creative thinking of the two composers,the music language and the implicit commonality of music expression of the two composers in their richly individual musical works are presented.This thesis seeks to study and understand the modern polyphony techniques and national styles explored by the two composers through these analysis studies,and tries to make up for the lack of research on this topic in China.This thesis will serve as a reference for the creation and theoretical study of polyphony in China.At the same time,the author hopes that though this thesis more scholars will pay attention to the Chinese folk style fugue.
