On The Ecological Dimension Of Historical Materialism

Ecological Marxism is one of the newest genres in the development of WesternMarxism, which was born in the1970of the20th century, and gradually developedinto a complete theoretical system and greater social impact theory of thought.Developed capitalist countries in the process of economic development and scientificand technological progress, not only created a great material wealth, but also led to aseries of social problems. High production and high consumption resulted in a wasteof resources and environmental pollution. The western theory thinks that historicalmaterialism is unable to explain the ecological problems, and ecological Marxismthrough the reconstruction of historical materialism, seeks historical materialismtheory of ecology, and actively explores the methods to solve the ecological crisis.This paper by using comprehensive analysis method and the theory ofcomparative law, from the view of nature, the theory of alienation, ecological crisistheory as well as the four aspects of social ecology, reviews and analyzes theecological Marxism. In terms of nature, ecological Marxism improves the naturalposition in the historical materialism of Marxism, interactive construction of natural,cultural and labor relations, and studied Marxist classics, confirms that historicalmaterialism has the ecological thought. In terms of crisis theory, ecological Marxismwith the characteristics of the development of contemporary capitalism, elaboratednew crisis in the areas of consumption, and the contradiction between productionconditions and the environment caused by the coexistence of ecological and economiccrisis. Ecological Marxism criticizes capitalism system from the point of ecology,advises to develop a new type of anthropocentrism, raises to protect the ecologicalbalance of the economic model and social model. This article considers thatecological Marxism reconstructs some theory of historical materialism, on the whole,it does not go beyond historical materialism, which only enriches and extends thebasis of the theory.
