The mural on the wall of Dai nationality's Buddhist temple is one of the minority's typical folk arts in Yunnan minority region. At first, with the introduction of Buddhism of Southeast Asian with Buddihism, it was gradually spread as a religionary art with contents involving such as Buddhist stories in Beiye Buddhist books, folk legendaries, religionary commandments and etc, implicating traditional values, aesthetic conceptions, life style, custom, faith, ethic and moral of Dai nationality, coagulating and transferring their history memories, emotions, experiences and wisdom. It is important part of Dai culture and spirit.The murals spread almost all over the villages of Dai. The reason why the author of this article has chosen these murals outside of the walls of the Buddhist house in Manzailong Buddhist Temple at Manzailong village, Mengzhe Town, Menghai County, Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Xishuangbanna as the subjects of research, is that these murals have a long histories, and remain in a relative good condition so far, of which the contents touch on all kinds of common themes of the Buddhist murals in their temples in Dai region, and the selected Buddhist stories are very typical. The crafts and tools of paintings are not only traditional but also representative. The native culture and art style fill with the characteristics of that region. They are important image data for researches of their clothes, architectures, life style, customs and traditional cultures of Dai nationality. They are also have values of history, society and art.Using studies'theories and research methods of history, nationality, religion, custom, art and etc, based on a lot of field investigations and literatures, through the following aspects of the case studies of outside of the walls of the Buddhist house in Manzailong, the main contents include the following aspects:First, made a macro-introduction on the architectural layout of the Manzilong Buddhist Temple and the spread of the murals, disclosing that the Buddhist houses are risking dismantlement at any time and that these murals are facing crisis of destruction.Second, sorted the murals according to their themes. And compared the murals'contents and the knowledge of the villagers to these murals with the related contents in Buddhist books, the concrete contents of these murals have been investigated and explained by this paper.Third, analyzed and explained the art characteristics of these murals and the styles of native arts.Fourth, made a summarized analysis on the values of these murals, giving a new cognition and new position for these murals from the perspective of an outsider and a scholar.
