This paper intends to reach a relatively concrete, in-depth and objective analysis of the Tibetan regent system which lasted for nearly200years through the study of Razheng(1912-1947), the fifth Living Buddha who lived in the period of the Republic of China. Besides, it will try to study the development of the regent system and Razheng's personal fate as a regent during his regent period (1934-1940) by using abundant historical facts based on the special background. Although the origin, development and change of Tibetan regent system are different in background and political significance according to different times, the particularity is a reflection of the universality. At the mean time, it will make people be clear about the value and position of Tibetan regent system in Chinese modern times, and its function in the special period. The paper is composed of six chapters. In addition to the introduction and the final chapter is conclusion.
