With the change of international situation and the adjustment of foreign policies, especially the change of Sino-US relationship, during the cold war, Sino-ASEAN relationship had transformed from mutual enmity to mutual engagement and finally into partnership. Nowadays, Sino-ASEAN relationship has become a comprehensive one. However, it is beyond doubt that the development of Sino-ASEAN relationship during cold war laid a solid foundation for present friendly relationship.Through the collating of the data like the titles and high frequency vocabularies in the People's Daily for key word ASEAN, and with the analysis of China's foreign affairs policies at different stages, we can give a general look on the transformation and development in the Sino-ASEAN relationship from the perspective of Chinese. The focal point we paid attention to toward ASEAN mainly concentrates on criticizing on politics fiercely in the first stage; While for the second stage, the criticizing voices had been greatly lowered, but at the same time, there had limited interactions between the two parties and they were cautious to each other. Moreover, the economic issues generally neglected on the first stage were granted the status equal to political issues on the second stage. In the third stage, due to Soviets' support on Vietnam's invasion into Cambodia, the regional situations was greatly deteriorated, which accelerated the solidarity of ASEAN and the development of China-ASEAN relationship to some extent.
