The Southeast Asia is one of the most important circumjacent regions to China. Because this area has strategic position and rich natural resourses, as well as special historical and cultural origin with China, therefore, it is the most vital adjacent part of China. With the rapid economic development between China and Southeast Asia, the competition and co-operation exist between them. The current general status between them is good, but there are still some historical and practical issues need to be resolved in order to future improve the bilateral relationship. How to develop the bilateral relationship in the future affects not only the frontier safety of both parties, but also the whole Asia-Pacific region's strategic development in the 21 century. Further studies concern China and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) relations will become important, which include the critical meaning of developing the bilateral relationship between China and ASEAN. The factors affect the bilateral relationship, the systematic strategies and suggestions to promote two parts'relations, and so on. This thesis will make analysis of the critical meaning of promoting Sino-ASEAN relations from political relations, economic relations, military relations and cultural relations. And then reveal the restraining factors which affect their relations, and raise some corresponding strategies and suggestions. At last, this thesis will predict the future development of China and ASEAN relations, and provide guidance to promote and develop the bilateral relationship, speed up the cooperation and realize the development together.
