On September 15, 2005, President Hu Jintao formally proposed an important concept of a "harmonious world" during his speech at the 60th anniversary UN summit for the first time. Chinese Communist Party Congress report in 2007 went further to identify this concept as an overall guiding philosophy of China's diplomatic work in the new period. Along with the elevating status of China in the international community, the concept of a"harmonious world"with Chinese cultural characteristics, constructed in accordance with Chinese thinking modes, is expected to draw wide and positive response globally. Harmonious Sino-US relation is one of the most important bilateral foreign relations for China. The United States is the most developed and most influential country in the world. The cognitive attitudes and response of the United States of the concept of a"harmonious world"is to some extent, closely related to the fact that whether this Chinese concept could be promoted and publicized into the international community efficiently and effectively.Compared with the hot Chinese domestic academic research and study, that of the United States is very limited. This phenomenon illustrates the concept of a"harmonious world", during the five years since its introduction, hasn't received widespread interest and academic attention. Even in the very limited feedback and evaluation, American scholars have not shown a high consistent degree of cognitive tendencies, on the contrary, there is a clear cognitive dissonance, with positive and negative views mostly accounting for an equal ratio. This paper just aims to sort out and consolidate the relevant feedback and comments of the American Scholars of the concept of a"harmonious world", and thus further explore the potential and possible reasons that this concept hasn't received the wide attention from the American Scholars and that the significant cognitive differences among those scholars exist.
