Research On The Village Self-government Pattern In The Period Of Britain Leased Weihaiwei

For China, which is in a very crucial period of the market economy, village self-government is very important for political development and social stability. However, the governance pattern in modern Chinese country is in a way that gives the first place to institutional construction and takes breach in formalizational "local democracy". Practice makes that, this way goes with frustration and negative effects. All of these make us facing this problem again, that how to achieve the goal of village self-government. For some reasons, Chinese countries's social autonomy which have been overlooked for a long time is considered to an imcompatible element with social mordenlizational transforming and market economy. Actually, this kind of recognization and the policy action based on it become the source of local socioties'failure, and finally, the process of mordenlization will suffer a setback.The village self-government pattern in the period of Britain leased Weihaiwei gives us a positive instence with the mixture of the governance cultule in east and west, British cononialists came to Weihaiwei with the thought of village self-government. They reserved the village self-government tradition in Weihaiwei countries, and formed a characteristic village autonomy, which had a positive governance effect. Although this pattern is very different from modern local governance, but this experience based on the mixture with different governance culture in east and west, which achieved better governance goals, is worth refenrencing. At least, this pattern tells us that, Chinese traditional village self-government does not repel the west autonomy experience, even more, maybe it can merge into the social modernlization and market economy. The last part mainly gives an account to the character and the social effect of the village self-government pattern in the period of Britain leased Weihaiwei, and finally explains the meaning of it.
