Republic of Turkey steps over the asian continent and the european continent, holds a strategic point of Black Sea, which is the channel between Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The state of which 97% territory is in Asia is the member state of NATO and it's also the important ally of America in Central Asia and West Asia. At present, Turkey positively strives for becoming a member of EU. Since 1950s, Turkey conveied its determination of joining EU. In 1999, Turkey got the identity of EU' contact member state and in 2004, EU decided to start the negotiation for Turkey's application for joining EU. So far, Turkey is the candidate contry of EU, not the full member. Although not accepted by EU, Turkey still persists its faith. Erdogan, Prime Minister of Republic of Turkey claims that joining EU is the Turkey's most great project in history. In september,2010, Turkey adopted the constitutional amendment by means of referendum, which is for the purpose of bedding the way to EU. The reason why Turkey sticks to joining EU, even if it has been refused all the time is the EU' economic strength, its attractive welfare policy and its political influence. And to the EU, the reason why it always hesitates is that Firstly, the EU values the Turkey's geographical advantage and its role of communication in the affair of the Middle East. Secondly, Turkye's cultural background makes EU anxious.Owing to it is deep-rooted philosophy with the historical development, once formed, social culture is hardly changed. Turkey's culture is obviously different from Christian culture not only in terms of origins but also in terms of religious background. To most of European, Turkey's joining the EU is the end of the EU's history. Maybe, in the future, Turkey's identity is the EU's special partners.
