"Modernization theory" claims that modernization process leads to democratization in any given society. Such a transformation in political culture presuppose a major shift in the value systems. This study, by portraying what modernization is expected to and failed to bring to countries in social transition in the examples of China and Turkey, aims to demonstrate that the long and externally driven periods of modernization do not necessarily result in a visible shift in socio-political value system, and show similar patterns. |
