Edward Said (Edward·W·Said) was a contemporary renowned literary theorist and literary critic, he was considered the pioneer of post-colonial theory. he played an important role in the field of post-colonial criticism. Said published a lot of works. These works explained his post colonial theory. Such as "Orientalism", "Culture and Imperialism," "Palestinian problem" and so on, and these works became the important weapon of post-colonial cultural criticism.Said's concept of postcolonial theory with a strong ideological criticism, his theory research and political reality combined together, its theoretical foundation is built on Foucault's power-discourse theory and Gramsci's cultural hegemony. and formed his own theory of colonial discourse analysis, and showed the deep relationship between the first world and the third world, the real reasons were expored from hiding under the false phenomenon. The paper analyzed from the origin of Said's post-colonial, and the defects and problems in the theory.This paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter, "found that 'Orientalism'", through reviewing the development of the east history to reveal the mechanisms of power behind Orientalism. The second chapter "global cultural strategy of imperialism", this chapter explained the degree of development of imperialism, and gave rise to thinking of the cultural imperialism. The third chapter "the resistance strategy of post-colonial theories", it focused on the concerns to the third world, and the resistance strategy of the third world against the first world. The fouth chapter"Edward Said and the postcolonial:contradictory theory and practice", this chapter explained the problems in Said's theories of post-colonial and the impacts to other post-colonial theorists.At the end of the paper, we discussed the trend of the unique development of China and the impacts of the post-colonial theories to China.
