It has been 90 years since the Chinese communists have combined the basic principles of Marxism with the concrete realities of China, during which, two roads which were consistent with China's national conditions have been pioneered. One is the road of rural areas encircling the cities and seizure of power by armed people and the other is the socialism with Chinese characteristics. The road of socialism with Chinese characteristics is condensed with efforts of several generations of leaders. The party's first generation of the collective leadership with Mao Zedong as its core worked hard on the socialist construction path which was fit to China's national conditions and made a comprehensive contribution. On this basis, the second generation of central collective leadership with Deng Xiaoping as its core made a historic decision to shift the focus of the party and the country to economic development and reform and opening up, and began to explore a new construction path. The settlement of major theoretical issues has provided a guide to the open of the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics. With the reform and opening up and modernization construction, the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics has comprehensively launched. It has been further expanded and deepened by the third generation of collective leadership of the party central committee with comrade Jiang Zemin as its core and the central party committee with comrade Hu Jintao as its general secretary. With the deepening of the reform and the practice in economy, politics, culture, etc, in the new century and new stage, the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics has officially been formed.
