In recent years, infectious diseases have become one of the greatest threats to human health. To solve the problem necessitates the joint efforts of international communities, and the study of the international prevention and control mechanism of infectious diseases is especially imperative. Consequently, we need not only to know about the process of development and evolution of the international prevention and control mechanism of infectious diseases, but also make an in-depth analysis of the major rules, measures and characteristics of the International Health Regulations (2005). So far, the International Health Regulations (2005) constitutes an international prevention and control system which is most concerned with public health. This paper summarizes the responses of China and Korea to the International Health Regulations (2005) so that both sides can reach consensus in strengthening international cooperation and coping jointly with infectious diseases. The paper also has enormous significance in actively exploring the possible measures to achieve international cooperation. Currently, there still exist many problems in the international prevention and control mechanism of infectious diseases. As the paper maintains, currently, the effective means to improve international capability of prevention and control of infectious diseases is to establish a fair and equitable new international order as soon as possible, strengthen multilateral cooperation, adopt complex governance, and enhance WHO's capability of implementation. In the future, the international communities still have a heavy responsibility and a long way to go in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. The governments of all the countries in the world and the relevant international organizations should continue to enhance investment and cooperation in this field. And the most urgent thing for the present is to improve humankind's capacity of cognition, prevention and control to ensure early research, early finding, early report, and early treatment. The problem of infectious diseases has no national boundaries, and strengthening international cooperation is the inevitable option for the humankind to prevent and treat the infectious diseases. Strengthening the study of the international prevention and control mechanism of infectious diseases not only represents the people's imperative demand for healthy life, but also reflects the academia's concern with and emphasis on strengthening cooperation in prevention and control of infectious diseases. It's an imperative matter and has realistic significance in taking preventive measures.
