Vocabulary is the fundamental part in English learning. And vocabulary strategies are a hot issue in the study of second language acquisition. The newly-issued Senior English Curriculum Standards has many distinctive features compared with the former ones; and one of the most distinctive features of it is the increase of vocabulary: students are required to master at least 3000 words in addition to a quantity of useful expressions and vocabulary learning strategies. According to the requirement, it is urgent to find a solution to optimize students'learning strategies and develop students'vocabulary learning ability. The vocabulary level is even the basis for senior 3 students to go deeply into English learning in the future. However, foreign language instruction in our country still neglects the training of learning approaches and learning strategies. As a result, students do not master the suitable strategies and lose their interest and enthusiasm for vocabulary learning. Therefore, it is very important to make research on vocabulary strategies of senior 3 when vocabulary is considered to be the most important part in English learning.The research subjects are two classes in Panjin No.2 high school in Liaoning Province. The thesis aims to investigate vocabulary strategies employed by students and the relationship between scores and strategies use, as well as training strategies for students and analyzing the scores by the experimental class and control class. The pre-test was carried on to know the vocabulary level and to provide the basis for strategies instruction. Along with the pre-test is the questionnaire. After the 14-week strategies training, the study analyzes the scores of the two classes to testify training of vocabulary strategies can improve the learning ability of students. Here are the conclusions.In general, senior 3 students sometimes employ vocabulary learning strategies. Among the five vocabulary learning strategies investigated, memory strategies are employed most frequently, and social strategies are the least frequently used; there is an incongruity between the use and scores; strategies training has made an effect in strategies'application; the experimental class makes progress after training; the scores of control class is not very obvious.
