In the traditional English teaching methods in senior middle schools, lexical chunks teaching had been limited in recitation of individual words and grammar rules teaching. Most of the time, the students devote most of their time and energy to reciting, which lead to no improvement in their English study. As a result, applied linguistics put forward the teaching pattern for lexical chunks. Compared to a word, a lexical chunk is a larger linguistic unit in real communication, which combines grammar rules, semantics and the context. Lexical chunks are relatively stable and easier than words in practice. Based on the theory of lexical chunks, this paper aims to test the efficiency and effect of lexical chunks on senior school English teaching. Also the paper tries to answer the following questions:Can Lexical Chunks Teaching Method polish up the English level of senior students? Do they achieve higher grades than before after the experiment? What's their feeling and opinion on the practice and effect of Lexical Chunks Teaching Method in their English learning?To test the feasibility of the Lexical Chunk Teaching Method in senior school English teaching, Class 2 Senior 2 and Class 15 Senior 2 from Jinsha Senior Middle School are chosen as subjects. The experiment lasts a term. During the experiment, Lexical Chunk Teaching Method is emphasized in daily English teaching for the experimental group, which is avoided in the matched group. The students' English applying ability is tested before and after the experiment. To ensure the reliability and validity of the test, the statistics are collected from two municipal examinations and are analysed carefully. And the students were asked to have a questionnaire before and after the experiment so as to get their opinions on Lexical Chunk Teaching Method and have an analysis about it.It is concluded that Lexical Chunk Teaching Method is beneficial to improving the students' English applying ability to some degree. Lexical Chunk Teaching Method help the students in the experimental group get higher marks in English exams, making the students acquire more language knowledge in a relatively short period. On top of that, Lexical Chunk Teaching Method has an obviously positive effect on the students who do poorly in English, making them give a better performance in English exams and chances are higher than before that they can past most of the exams.
