| English textbooks, undoubtedly, play the role of guiding EFL learners to a command of the English language. The criteria for a high-quality English textbook generally depends on the following elements:whether the language knowledge is organized in a scientific and reasonable way; whether the textbook can provide adequate language input to help the development of students'ability of using English; and whether the contents of the textbook contributes to the cultivation of their emotional attitude and cultural awareness.In the light of text analysis and questionnaires, this thesis is to venture the research on Fun with English, an English textbook intended for junior English learners in China. The text analysis consists of external analysis and internal analysis. The former lays emphasis on the textbook design, content selection and the pattern of content organization, while the latter attaches importance to the knowledge, language ability, emotional attitude and cultural awareness according to the new Curriculum Standards. The author will take a comprehensive approach to the research, including literature review, class observation and questionnaires and interview in order to get a true picture of the textbook for the sake of objective criticism. The author's one-semester internship in a middle school enables her to collect a lot of first-hand information about the textbook in use both from the teachers and students there.Based on the analytical research on the textbook Fun with English, The author will point out its advantages and disadvantages and finally come up with suggestions for the teachers, students and its compilers as well for the purpose of the further improvement in editing and using the textbook. |
