| With the rapid development of economy and technology, China becomes stronger and stronger in the world. Thus, it is more common for Chinese people to contact people all over the world. Chances to travel and study abroad are increasing. So are other activities, international or global business included. Obviously, the second language teaching & learning, especially English teaching & learning makes much sense. As an international official language, English turns out to be one of the basic skills for people. Undoubtedly, English teaching & learning in senior high school, as a definitely important stage, arouse wide public concern. Therefore, the ability of using the language accurately and properly both in spoken and written English is focused on and aimed to achieve. So, it is undeniable that great importance is supposed to attach to English teaching & learning of writing, which plays an increasingly important role in developing the ability of the students to the full.This paper tries to investigate the present situation of English teaching & learning in writing by distributing questionnaires to 33 teachers as well as 450 students in three different senior schools in Longwan County, Wenzhou City. Meanwhile, interviews are conducted in the same schools. The result of investigation presents that English teaching & learning in writing exists certain problems as follows.The students' problems are: 1.Students don't really realize the importance of English writing and show no interest in it. 2. Students are weak in basic language usage. 3. Students are lacking in writing skills and poor in organizing the structure of writing.4.Students are unaware of the importance of putting what they have learnt into use and improving what they have written, not practising writing actively and purposefully. 5. Students are short in reading and narrow in knowledge, with bad writing and handwriting habits.The teachers'problems are:1.Teachers don't really attach great importance to the teaching in English writing.2. Teachers have no certain methodical and systematic plan for teaching writing.3. Teachers usually adopt a commonly boring, single and old teaching method.4. Teachers don't focus on the right things and guide properly in teaching.5. The evaluation to the students writing is not efficient. 6.Teachers don't pay more attention to the students continued correcting work and no more actions are taken to improve writing, leading to the worthless evaluation work.7. Teachers don't think more and deep about English teaching in writing.Causes of the problems:1.Teachers don't pay adequate attention to English writing and take few actions to change the situation.2. The evaluation to writing goes on wrong way.3. The students hold a negative attitude to writing and do it unwillingly.4.The students are puzzled of sentence patterns as well as passage structures.5.The effectiveness of classroom teaching is missing.Faced with these problems, I put forward some solutions in this paper as follows.1.Strenghen and enhance English teaching in writing.2.Consolidate the grammar and language use and make the students form a good habit of writing.3.Develop and improve teaching methods as well as strategies.4.Arouse the students' interest and enthusiasm in English writing by taking some effective measures.5.Pay more attention to evaluatation of the students compositions and try to promote them to self-development.6.Do some further study and develop the skills of teaching to make a full teacher. |
