Writing plays a key role in the four communication skills ( listening, speaking, reading and writing), and it is one of the important ways of language expression. In the process of writing, students could improve their English with practising the word spelling, the sentence organizing or the paragraph arranging. Writing could also interact with other three communication skills to achive a better effect in English learning. But, for the limit of acquired English knowledge, high school students tend to express themselves in the chinese way of thinking, which often cause spelling or grammar mistakes. Even without those mistakes, some passage by high school students are more like a literal translation of Chinese into English. All those problems are the results of negative transfer, which is a subject in the scope of interlanguage research. For a research on the impact of negative transfer and a countermeasure for it, two questions are raised as following:1. Where do these negative transfers occur in the English writing of the high school students?2. Could the countermeasures be effective in reducing the negative transfers? For the first question, an interview is used to distinguish students'errors(not due to negative transfer) from mistakes(affected by negative transfer), and the mistakes are analysed and classified into different groups which include problems of capitalization and subject-predicate disagreement. For the second question, according to analysis of the negative transfer and a questionnaire, countermeasures are proposed as below: Two classes of students from Chunlai High School in Yucheng, Henan province are taken as experimental subjects, one of the classes followed the countmeasures and the other not. In the end, the result of the analysis shows that the students in experimental countermeasures have much less problems in negative transfer, which proves the reasonablity of the countermeasures in turn.Because of the limit of time, more writing samples are not be analysed. So, there is a limit of the instructive effect of the countermeasures. For greater improvement in English writing of high school students, there hope to be more comprehensive research on negative transfer.
