Study On The Discriminant Of Guangxi Zhuan Forg Worship

Zhuang is a immemorial nationality, whose revered idols are not only diverse in kind,but also wide in scope. Among so many idols, their worship of frog has been popularly spread and has a great influence.The worship of frog form Zhuang ancestors can trace back to later period of the Old Stone Age. The origin of this initial worship was based on specific mode of thinking and living environment of primitive people.Simultaneously, frog worship culture is developed continuously along with the development of society and economy, and integrate into all aspects of life of the Zhuang. Just because of its long history, great influence and rich cultural connotation, frog worship has attracted intensive attention of academe.Many scholars believe that the Zhuang worship of the frog is a totem worship, which puts forward the theory of "frog totem".The nature and evolution of the frog worship has been a contentious issue in academic since the passage of time. In this paper, the phenomenonof Guangxi Zhuang frog worship is analyzed and expounded from the origin of frog worship, the manifestation of frog worship in Zhuang festival custom and folk art, and the survived texts about this worship. After studying and analyzing vast historical materials and sorting out the correlated data, we find that it is worth rethinking and concluding again the assertion that the "frog worship" should be defined as the "frog totem ",whether seen from the theory of totemism,or from the living customs of Zhuang people about the frog worship,or analyzed the spread of the myths, legends, folk songs.Based on above research in this paper,we assume there may has been appeared the stage that frogs was defined as a totem, the "frog" here refers to the toad, not the frog.From the handed down texts of the myth, the frog of in Zhuang people more possible is a nature worship that derived from natural worship God of Thunder.
