Along with social development and economic growth, the pace of urbanization has greatly accelerated the rate of progress, at the same time, traffic in citied have increasingly become a widespread concern for us. To solve the widespread congestion in cities nowadays, this thesis develops an Adaptive Traffic Navigation System by the way LBS (Location Based Service) on, from a new point of view that by guiding users using data from users to act in the designed way first, then using the feedback to refresh the data, and so on. The system provides two functions for users, at first it could show users the state of congestion of streets or blocks nearby, secondly, it designs proper route which gives less time the priority for each user. By guiding one user to take a less unobstructed route than join the crowed first, and a large number of users then, so as to release pressure the traffic faces, the system could attain the target that whole traffic runs in an easy way and make full use of the roads'accommodation.In the first place, this thesis gives a detailed introduction to background and current situation of the Location Based Service, followed by some applications in different fields and their general methods in development. Second, the thesis analyzes the cause of congestion in cities, and discusses the proper way to improve and solve the problem, then takes a better program which we will apply in the development later from two by comparing their advantages and disadvantages. Third, we analyze the source and way we collect data and the way and technology we store data, then the mode data processing uses carefully in the development in details, according to usual methods in application of the Location Based Service. Among them we explore the reason why we take these sources of data and the little different way we store the data in the server database. At last, in the main body of the thesis, we develop each component of the Adaptive Traffic Navigation System in details, especially the method to solve rubs we encountered in the process by induction and analysis. We also make some achievements at HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) by taking consideration at the difficulty and the effects in realization, and then get a feasible and attractive program for users afterwards.The Adaptive Traffic Navigation System we have developed is a new application of the Location Based Service, it takes advantage of the features and mature mode in development of the LBS to solve such a widespread congestion problem in cities nowadays, and this system is well designated to such a heavy traffic jam in our country. This adaptive system is not only suitable for the roads at present, but also is going to be well applicable for the more accommodated roads in the future, with advantages in low cost, intelligent and making full use of resources we own. The urban Adaptive Traffic Navigation System this paper has developed is well designed to take full use of the existing roads and hardware facilities. On the one hand the system can provide users with better options and routes in the journey, and on the other hand, it can ease and improve the traffic congestion in cities at maximum.
