Research On Web-based And Mobile Instant Messaging

The vigorous development of Internet brings many mature Internet applications, instant messaging is one of them. People can transfer text, voice, video and other forms of information in real-time through instant messaging. There are many users like instant messaging because it is low-cost and real-time. There are many Internet companies and organizations providing instant messaging services. In people's daily work and life, instant messaging plays an increasingly important role.Web-based instant messaging provides instant messaging service in the form of web applications, helps users to save the time of downloading the client. Mobile instant messaging lets users to use anywhere and anytime. Web-based instant messaging and mobile instant messaging both are getting more and more attention because of their advantages.This paper is based on the need of a medical website, and researched the technologies which related to instant messaging, web-based instant messaging and mobile instant messaging. These technologies are including the protocols of instant messaging, the Ajax, jQuery library, android operating system and so on.On the basis of the research, this paper further designed and implemented an instant messaging system. This system contains to part:web-based instant messaging system and android instant messaging client. The functions of web-based instant messaging system are common user viewing doctor's online status, common user queuing, instant messaging between common user and doctor. The functions of android instant messaging client are common user searching doctors, common user view doctor's information and online status, common user queuing, instant messaging between common user and doctor.This paper also did several tests on this system. These tests include functional test, performance test and browser compatibility test. The result of functional test shows that the functions of this system are working properly and met the design requirements. The result of performance test shows that this system has good performance and can support more than three thousand users online. The result of browser compatibility test shows that this system has good compatibility with common browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Opera.
