At present, there are many serious problems in coal mines such as poor working conditions, security risks and collapse accidents that causing a large number of casualties and economic loss, which means safty monitor system that has been used can not be able to solve these problems. ZigBee is an emerging wireless communication technology, which contains data acquisition, data processing and wireless communications in a self-organizing network of distributed collecting information. Low power, low cost, large capacity of network and high reliability are features of ZigBee. Mine personnel tracking could be realized by using ZigBee technology, which will greatly improve mine safety in production management.This paper analyzes the existed positioning technology, studies underground personnel positioning and ZigBee tracking technology at home and abroad. Also ZigBee wireless communication technology has been deeply discussed that based on ZigBee protocol of IEEE802.15.4 standards and positioning algorithm of RSSI. At the same time overall locating project of underground personnel positioning is proposed that combined with the design requirements and working principle of ZigBee positioning technology. CC2431 and CC2430 chip are used as wireless transceiver, and design of hardware circuit is introduced in detail. Programs of gateway, reference nodes and location nodes are designed for software system. A network of underground personnel information for positioning is established with ZigBee wireless technology. The information will be transmitted to the graphical ground of real-time monitoring software on computer in order to realize real-time tracking of nodes. Finally, the paper introduces the system of testing and results of data analysis. After that the error of system positioning is less than 3 meters, and meet requirements of design.This paper realizes underground personnel positioning function by software and hardware design based on ZigBee technology. And it solves problems existing in current underground positioning system. The system must play an important role in the coal mine safety monitoring, and has extensive application prospects.
