The US financial crisis, causing by the subprime mortgage crisis, has become more and more fierce for 2008. Many west financial institutions suffered bankruptcy, the crisis started with the collapse of many big investment banks in Wall Street. Then it spread quickly to the whole world, which affected economy and trade in turn. With major developed economies experienced recessions, more and more export-dependent emerging market economies were severely affected by a sharp drop in international commodity prices too. This situation poses a threat to some countries economic development. So its long-term pursuit of export-promotion strategy, China's foreign trade in the second half of 2008 fell dramatically under the slow down in external demand, foreign trade surplus has also declined substantially. The occurrence of the crisis made us see that our country's export-oriented trade development strategy is unsustainable, and the adjustment of China,s trade development strategy has become more urgent. The crisis makes us realize that it is necessary to change the country's model of trade strategy and economic development.First this paper analysed basic theory of foreign trade. Then, proceed by examining the impact of the crisis on the world economy and trade, and status of foreign trade in our coutry. Again, the article investigated that many factors has affected our country's foreign trade. Finally, the article suggested foreign trade policy options and study of strategy.
