Since China's economic reforms in 1978,China is undergoing rapid social transformation and change.one of the most remarkable phenomenon is the large scale of rural labour force's migration.People exclaim this phenomenon as "Boom",which has broad and far-reaching impact on China's economy and society.Rural labour force's migration has different characteristics in different stages in China's transition. The factors affecting are abundant and complex, involving the "Hukou" system, labor market segmentation, migration costs, income gap, the scale of urban unemployment and others. This study has important significance.our paper firstly gives description of the historical process of rural-urban migration in transition, then analyses the impact of "Hukou" system, labour market segmentation and others on migration, then constructs a quantitative model, uses econometric methods to analyse the factors. Finally we reach the conclusion and propose some policy recommendations.Chapter 1 of our paper is the introduction, mainly explains the research background, contents and structure, method and our contributions and deficiencies.Chapter 2 includes the definition of the concept of rural labour force's migration and literature reviews concerning the migration.Chapter 3 analyses the characteristics of rural-urban labor migration in China's transition. We divide transitional periods into five different stages. In the description of historical process of labor migration, we find that migration policy has very important influence on migration;migration behaviour and migrant in various stages has different characteristics.Chapter 4 uses qualitative methods to analyse the impact of the "Hukou" registration system, the labor market's segregation, migration costs, urban unemployment and other factors on the rural-urban labor migration.Chapter 5 uses empirical methods to analyse the effect of rural-urban income gap and the scale of urban unemployment on labor migration.Firstly we construct a mathematical model of labor migration from the perspective of family decision-making,and derive a econometric model. Then we collect data to do empirical research. We find that urban's income has significant positive effects on migration, but because of the the existence of liquidity constraints in migration, the the coefficient of rural's income is negative, but not significantly.Chapter 6 summarizes whole paper and proposes some recommendations on "Hukou"registration system, labour market's segmentation, migration costs and others. In this paper we try to find out the characteristics of labor migration in China's transition, and analyse the impact of various factors on labour migration.Due to my limited theoretical level and the lack of empirical data, this paper has some shortcomings and deficiencies inevitably.
