Since reform and opening, Jiangsu's foreign trade has been developed unprecedently, and gradually formed the international trade development model of main processing trade, supplemented by general trade. Meanwhile, the pressure under environment and resources weighs more and more heavily as well as the main measure of pollution emissions and energy consumption grows increasingly.Processing trade and general trade are the two main ways of China's foreign trade. The paper focuses on the different roles of different trade models in giving rise to the environmental pollution in Jiangsu Province. This paper reviewed the environmental impact of international trade firstly, concluded the same and the different paths of the impact from the processing trade and general trade on this basis, then studied the different roles of processing trade and general trade in industrial waste discharge from export scale, export structure and environmental policy based on the regression analysis and the VAR model comparatively. The empirical study found that the current trade models had given rise to pollution levels, and the negative effects of scale and structure caused by processing trade had exceeded general trade, while environmental policy had played a positive role but not significant enough. In this regard, the article put forward the policies from processing trade, general trade and market mechanisms, government functions in order to promote coordinated development among processing trade, general trade and environment in Jiangsu Province.
