Plants growth and productivity are greatly affected by both biotic and abiotic stresses. However, in order to live and propagate on the earth, plants have developed a series of precise mechanisms for responding to environmental changes, which have been established during their long-period evolution. Researchers have found that there are many stress resistance genes existed in plants and they play important roles in the resistance to the environmental adversity. So deep research about these genes seems quite essential. For this purpose, a database resource named PSGDb (Plant Stress Gene Database) was developed to systematically document and integrate these various stress data and its genetic relations, which could further help us to gain a global insight into plant stress genes and how they function with each other. According to the plant stress genes existed in our database, we made a primary category of the plant stresses, which could help the researchers to search for our database more efficiently. Meanwhile, our database could update automatically, gaining the newest data of plant stress genes from public biology databases much more easily.Besides, several useful analysis tools were also designed to facilitate us to find more potential stress genes, such as local blast is used to find similar mRNA or protein sequences in the local database, GBrowse could show gene position and features in the genome context and so on. Our database platform supports data statistics and analysis for users, for example, the distributions of plant stress genes could be viewed according to plant species and plant stresses. The relational database system is used in PSGDb is MySQL. The server is developed by the Java Web frame——Struts 2, Hibernate 3 and Spring 3. The client is designed by using JSP and Ajax technique in order to provide a friendly user interactive interface.
