Artificial Islands are the islands which are built by humans in the sea for a certain purpose and use. They can be used to construct working areas in the harbors, airports, power plants and for the arrangement of the oil drilling. Also artificial island can be used as a supply of land for vessels and planes in the military.lt is particularly important for wave refraction, diffraction and reflection when we design the artificial island.Studying wave diffraction has important significance to determine the mooring conditions of the loading dock on the island, the structural designs of the island wall, the height of the breakwater wave wall as well as the local seabed erosion and deposition forms around the island. In this paper, we have carried out the numerical simulation of the wave height distribution around the artificial island by MIKE21-BW.The results shew that the MIKE21-BW was applicable on the numerical simulation of the diffraction studies of the artificial island. Then, we did some research on the wave distribution of several different shapes, different sizes of artificial islands.First, we have carried out the numerical simulation of the wave diffraction around the artificial island by MIKE21,and compare it to the results of physics experiments.they are equiformal, and verifyed the validity of the BW model in diffraction simulation of the artificial island. Then extended the method of wave height surrounding a vertical cylinder, then found out that the method of MacCamy and Fuchs,(1954) has some sphere of application. And then study the influence of the diameter on the wave distribution around the artificial island.Second, based on the above model and calculation method, we did numertical simulation on the wave diffraction of several different shapes, different sizes of artificial islands in the case not including wave conditions. Also,we summarized the law of the artificial island surrounded by the wave height distribution, and gave the main diffraction coefficient Kd values of the artificial island wall around several key points, which will provide some reference for the future engineering applications.
