An investigation had been made into the bird communities by line transect and fixed-radius point count methods in Wuhai Civil Airport and the surrounding area from August2009to July2010and in Erlian Civil Airport and the surrounding area from May2010to April2011.We analyzed the composition of avian community, the avian diversity in different seasons and different habitats, the composition of the dangerous birds and the similarity of bird communities indifferent habitats, combining with the formula of Shannon-Wiener index, evenness index, simp son index and the importance value. Then the feasible protective measures against birdstrike have been put forward for Wuhai Civil Airport and Erlian Civil Airport. The major result showed that:(1) A total of106species belonging to37families and17orders were recorded at Wuhai Civil Airport, including78native progenitive species and28un-progenitive species. Among the106species,21are residents,57are summer migrants,10are winter migrants and18are visitors. A total of91species belonging to30families and14orders were recorded at Erlian Civil Airport, including69native progenitive species and22un-progenitive species. Among the91species,19are residents,50are summer migrants,1are winter migrants and21are visitors. The Shannon-Wiener index of Wuhai Civil Airport was lower than that of Erlian Civil Airport.(2) Considering the avifauna, the Palearctic Realm birds had absolute advantage. According to the distribution coefficient, the narrowly distributed species were the main species at Wuhai Civil Airport but the middle distributed species at Erlian Civil Airport. (3) the seasonal change of avian diversity in both airports was significant. The species and diversity index were higher in spring and fall than that in summer and winter.What’s more, the difference among different habitats was significant at Wuhai Civil Airport and Erlian Civil Airport.(4) According to the importance value, the birds recorded in both airports could be divided into four types of hazard grades including catastrophic hazard, serious hazard, substantial hazard and minor hazard. There were5species of catastrophic hazard,5species of serious hazard,29species of substantial hazard and67species of minor hazard at Wuhai Civil Airport.There were7species of catastrophic hazard,2species of serious hazard,24species of substantial hazard and58species of minor hazard at Erlian Civil Airport.The birds threatened the flight safety of the airport mainly consisted of raptor, anseriformes, Passeriformes, doves and Ciconiiformes.(5) According to the investigation materials and the analysis of the main environmental factors which attract birds mostly, effective preventive measures have been proposed for Wuhai Civil Airport and Erlian Civil Airport.Such as mowing, waste management, Periodic ckecking of buildings, removing trees and so on.Besides, it is necessary to take measures initiatively to drive away the birds access to the airport.
