The electro-optic effects of crystals are the physical basics ofphotoelectric modulation technique, which is used to change thecorresponding parameters of the light and mainly used in the field of laserprocessing, optical communications, laser medical treatment, laser radarand so on. Photoelectric modulation technology including opticalintensity modulation technology and optical phase modulation technology,as a new type of modulation, fully reflects the high-speed of opticalmodulation technology and flexibility of electrical modulation technology,and now it is being more widely used in the ultrashort pulse generation,pulse shaping, broadband pulse generation, and spectral precision shapingtechnology. The mature of the photoelectric phase modulation technologyprovides a new technical support for the performance improving of thehigh-power lasers and broadband lasers.This paper discusses in detail the applications of the electro-opticmodulation technology in arbitrary pulse shaping system and arbitraryspectral shaping system. Firstly, it simply introduces the basic conceptand working principle of the optical modulation techniques, giving adetailed analysis of the electro-optic modulation crystals used in these experiments. The application of photoelectric modulation technique inmodulation-combiner system and fiber-optic ring system has been provedthe excellent performance in the process of optical pulse shaping andoptical spectral shaping. Furthermore, the thesis also gives out thesimulation of the experimental system, from the dual perspective oftheory and experiment to prove that optical modulation technique will bethe first-class choice in the related field application. In this paper thespecific work includes the following aspects:1) Through exploiting the research status and development trend of thetechnology for the generation of broadband and ultrashort pulse indomestic and international, the thesis clearly point out the strengths andtechnical difficulties of the optical modulation techniques when used inthis field. The basic principle of the optical modulation techniques andthe classification method of photoelectric modulated crystal were detailedintroduced. Beside, the paper also gives a detailed description of thecharacteristics of crystal used in the experiment, such as workingprinciple, main parameters and so on.2) Through analyses, simulations and experiments of the photoelectricmodulated beam combiner technology, it verifies the scientific of thephotoelectric modulation technique in the process of short pulsegeneration and arbitrary waveform pulse generation. During the analyses,simulations and experiments of the photoelectric modulated beam combiner system, improved performance of the photoelectric modulationtechnique in the process of high-precision broadband pulse generationand ultrashort pulse generation are verified.3) Based on the above analyses, the thesis gives out the comprehensiveexplanation and summary of the optical modulation techniques, where thedevelopment prospects and the applications range of this technology werediscussed. Combination development of optics and electricity technologywill be the main driving force for scientific progress in the future decade.Optical modulation technology will gradually be applied into moreoptical field, and greatly promote the progress of science and technology.How to shape the pulse, produce short pulses and shape the pulsespectral with optical modulation techniques are the main topic of thisthesis. The thesis gives out the simulation and experiment of the designsystem. After that the superiority of the optical modulation system wasdetailed discussion during the application in the pulse modulation andpulse chopped system. The thesis results showed that optical modulationtechniques will be one of the best way to achieve new pulsed lasers andoptical pulse shaping.
