In this study, the method of HS-GC-MS was adopted to detect DMSPconcentration of some common seaweeds which from different places of China coastal. The result showed: In Rhodophyta, Neorhodomela munita was the lowest that its DMSPconcentration was0.021μmol/g; Laurencia okamurae and Hypnea boergesenii weresecond lowest that their concentration was0.06μmol/g; Porphyra yezoensis was thehighest and its DMSP concentration reached5.45μmol/g. In Phaeophyta, Sargassummuticum was the lowest and its DMSP concentration was0.97μmol/g; Sargassumconfusum was second lowest, its DMSP concentration was1.12μmol/g; Pachydictyoncoriaceum was the highest, its DMSP concentration was up to2.92μmol/g; InChlorophyta, Enteromorpha prolifera was the lowest, its DMSP concentration was88.79μmol/g; Enteromorpha intestinalis was second-lowest that its DMSP concentrationwas93.21μmol/g; Ulva pertusa from Guangdong was the highest and its DMSPconcentration reached172.78μmol/g, while the same specie from Shandong was123.08μmol/g. On the whole, In Rhodophyta their concentration varied from0.02to5.45μmol/g, while in Phaeophyta were0.97-2.92μmol/g and in Chlorophyta were88.79-172.78μmol/g, the highest of Ulva pertusa was104times more than the lowest ofNeorhodomela munita.DMSP has multiple functions in seaweeds which can serve as an osmolyte, cryoprotectant and antioxidant. At the same time, it is also an attractant that can promotevarious sea or freshwater fishes and shrimps growth, feeding, resistance and improvetheir meat quality. In Chlorophyta the DMSP concentration is very high, so it could beused to extract DMSP. Enteromorpha prolifera is a common macroaglae, the studyinvestigated influences on DMSP concentration of Enteromorpha prolifera by factors ofsalinity, light and temperature. Results: DMSP concentration showed no relationshipwith salinity during15-30days, but the content of DMSP began to show positiverelationship with salinity from10‰to60‰until60days, in salinity10‰its DMSPconcentration only29μmol/g but102μmol/g in60‰; DMSP content increased gradually with the increasing light intensity when the light intensity was at10-60μmol/m~2s, under10μmol/m~2s it was47μmol/g but under60μmol/m~2s it was106μmol/g, and in the dark it was89μmol/g; DMSP content was firstly increased thendecreased between0℃and40℃. It was the highest around20℃reaching94μmol/g.Combined the single factor on DMSP synthesis and growth, Enteromorpha proliferacan produce the highest amount of DMSP in a unit of time under the condition thatsalinity, light intensity, temperature were:30‰-40‰,60μmol/m~2s,20℃-30℃.
