The petroleum resources evaluation is the basis of the oil and gas exploration and it isa necessary work of a country or an oil company in the oil and gas exploration anddevelopment, for it can provide important basis for oil and gas exploration decisionanalysis. In recent years,with the expanding field of oil and gas exploration and thesteady decline of the number of high abundance blocks,at home and abroad, especiallyChina, exploration domains is gradually turning to low porosity. In order to meet thegrowing needs of oil and gas exploration, some traditional and practical resourcesevaluation methods and new methods, new technologies have become a hot field ofresource evaluation.So far, there were three systematic resource evaluations which have been madefor Tarim basin in1986、1994and2002. Since2003a major discovery of carbonatereservoirs in Tazhong area. To2009, the three level reserves were684million tons andin which518million tons was carbonate reservoirs. It shows that resource potentialexceeded the previous understanding of this region and its main manifestation is the mainreservoir types transformation from Carboniferous and Silurian clastic to Cambrian andOrdovician carbonate,and resource structure type transformation from oil to gas.In this thesis,statistics, analogy and causes method were integratedly used tocalculate the amount of oil and gas resources of carbonate reservoirs in Tazhong area,and conducted resource potential and preferably favorable exploration targets. Eventuallyit provides an important basis for the oil and gas exploration and decision-making, and improves the exploration benefit.As a result of carbonate reservoirs’s karst reservoir-controlling, quasi-layereddistribution of a large area, large oil and gas fields found late and a exploration peak inrecent years,some of the traditional calculation methods were no longer applies. Thispaper will preferred some traditional calculation methods and introduce new methodsand new technologies, for the purpose of further improvement of resource evaluationmethodology and useful exploration for further development of resource evaluationmethodology.
