At present, after years of development, the application of global positioning system hasextended to civilian areas from a small number of research institutes and the militarydepartments. Well-known as salient features, high efficiency, automation, high precision,all-weather operation, and it’s many unique and powerful features, such as navigation, timingadjustment, precision measurement, GPS has been widely used in land, transportation, exploration, communication and other fields. As one part of the user’s system of the GPS system, the GPS handset, because it has advantages such as position quickly, easy operation, highefficiency, convenient to carry, etc. It has been widely used in the relevant industry. Additionally,it has high sensitivity, big storage capacity, economy, external interfaces and so on. In particular,it more and more widely applies in small-scale geological mapping and engineering geologicalmapping in recent years, its benefits are self-evident. In this paper,we study the impact of thebase station coordinates bias to the benchmark measurment through a numerical example. Also,we will explore the precision of the static measurements using the handset GPS. And practicalhandheld GPS positioning accuracy is still lacking of systematic research, so it has significancesense to make the systematic study of the use of handheld GPS accuracy and study how toimprove the measurement accuracy.
