Using theories and methods of GIS, the data of power grid can be managed efficiently to realize the query and analysis functions of special data. The data of power grid includes topographic maps, remote sensing pictures, transmission lines, substations and the chief power plants. Based on analyzing structure of GIS system, the study of Vector data model and Raster data model has been carried out and data processing method of GIS system has been given.By using the GIS platform, data of the power grid can be managed on terrain and queried directly. It is convenient to browse Power grid construction achievement dynamically, upload varieties of engineering product data and download all types of data for power grid design. During the designing and planning of power grid, GIS platform can supply all kinds of necessary auxiliary tools. With GIS, filing and fasttips of the existing data could be easier too. Finally, GIS could realize the management of graph and terrain in the designing and planning of power grid, and improve the work efficiency greatly.
