Reel drive is one of most important equipment in the in the System of Submarine pipelines laying, especially it plays a vital role in the the flexible ones. On the basis of development of domestic and foreign research related technologies, we focus on the System of Submarine pipelines laying to make a research analysis developing on the Flexible Pipe Reel Drive Systems(FPRDS). We complete the prototype development and test study.According to the function requirements and the performance parameters of pipelines laying,we accomplish the overall programme design of experimental prototype, especially discuss the mechanical design plan.Complete the mechanical part structure design, and we make a detailed discussion on the design and functional characteristics of the load simulator and transmission systems at same time. With the help Advanced Simulation of SIEMENS NX6.0, we make a modal analysis. As a result of the modal analysis, the first6inherent frequency and vibration modal is obtained. After the research of the first6inherent frequency, it proved that the support meets the strength requirements at work.Design the hydraulic system of drive system and load simulator,and discuss the theory and three different operating conditions. Through the analysis and calculations,we get the main parameters of hydraulic system and determine the major hydraulic components,such as the Two-way proportional variable piston motor, One-way proportional variable displacement piston pump and winch and so on.The mathematical model of the drive system is established. The dynamic characteristics of the drive system is analyzed, including the factors that affect the dynamic characteristics.The factors include the speed gain natural,frequency of hydraulic system,hydraulic damping ratio.On the basis of the working principle of the variable displacement pump of variable motor,The speed and tension control system characteristics are described in detail.The overall control system plan is completed and make a detailed on the hardware and software. We set up the hardware platform The program flow is determined.We accomplishment the programming by using LABVIEW,including the speed and tension adjustment modules,storage and display modules, data acquisition modules.Complete the test prototype debugging. Through a field test of The velocity of drive system and tension adjustment function, the curve of speed and tension is obtained. We make a analysis and research on these experimental results. The results show that this drive system meet the needs of flexible pipelines laying operations.
