In the process of the development of offshore oil and gas resources, thesubmarine pipeline is an integral part. Submarine pipeline is mainly used in offshoreoil and gas production and transportation. Due to the complexity and difficulty ofsubmarine pipeline laying process and the complicated marine environment, the studyof construction process of submarine pipeline laying is very important. The method oflaying of submarine pipelines are the following: S-Lay, J-Lay, Reel-Lay andTow-Method. In this paper, the several kinds of laying method is introduced and theemphasis is put on the construction process of Reel-Lay pipes. Reel-Lay is developedin late20th century. This method has high efficiency and low cost, and has beenapplied in many countries. This paper mainly introduces the construction process ofReel-Lay and analyzes the process of pipe winding on the roller. Based on somecertain assumptions and simplifications, theoretical analysis and calculation of stressof the pipe have been done when the pipe is being rolled up. Combined with the finiteelement method and using the finite element analysis software Abaqus to establish themodel of pipe rolling calculation model, the paper then get the result through analysisof the model. So that it can provide theoretical basis and reference for engineeringconstruction in the process of pipe laying.This paper mainly introduces the following contents:(1) Introduce the Reel-lay in the construction process, introduce the various stepsin the process of construction and puts forward some suggestions to ensure theconstruction process smoothly and provide some reference for the constructionprocess of project management.(2) Analysis of the pipe with pure elastic theoretical method, and calculate themaximum bending radius of the pipe in the elastic stage. The paper provides atheoretical basis to make plastic analysis for the pipeline.(3) Elastic-plastic analysis on the action of pure bending of the pipe are presented in this paper. Using the method of theoretical analysis to calculate themoment value of the pipe under different conditions of with strain-hardening ofmaterial and without strain-hardening of material, the paper determines therelationship between the bending moment and curvature of the pipeline under theaction of pure bending.(4) According to the actual situation, the process of pipe winding is for thecombined action of axial force and bending moment. To make elastic-plastic analysison the action of tensile-bending combination of the pipes, the finite element model ofbent pipe is established to calculate the stress and strain of pipe according to differentaxial force and bending moment. The paper provides a theoretical basis for theengineering construction process, and the reference for the selection of suitable reelsizes.
