Geographic information data are the basic and strategic resources, which arerelated to the national security and the economic&social development, as well asintegrate all kinds of information on natural resources, economic, social and cultural. With the continuous progress of the government scientific decision-making, theeconomic&social development informatization, and building a harmonious society, the demand of government departments, enterprises and the public is increasing forgeographic information services. However, the ways of geographic informationservices still is by providing the basic geographic data offline. It makes complex links, long life cycle, the application system building technical complexity, and high cost, sothat users can not obtain continuously updated data. It can not meet the large-scalebusiness applications needs. The common platform of geographic information, is designed to establish astandardization system for GIS data; by the geographic information resourcesexchanging and sharing mechanism, achieving an interoperability among waterconservancy, transportation, land, urban planning, meteorology, environmentalprotection and other departments; providing online maps and geographic informationservices for government organizations, enterprises and the social public to enhancethe ability of the national geographic information public service. This thesis describes the status and the trends of the development of geographicinformation services, analyzing the requirements on geographic informationintegration, exchanging and sharing for urbanization, proposing the key technologiesand method in Beijing’s common platform of geographic information, designing thespecification, database tables and the functions, expanding the implementation of theplatform construction. At last, we complete the representation common platform ofgeographic information which contains the geographical services, GIS portal, datamanagement, and maintenance management functions:1. Discuss the standards of storage, management, updating and utilizing for themassive spatial data base on geographic data sharing to keep the data’s authority.2. Analyze the key technologies and main method for the common platform ofgeographic information based on service-oriented architecture, to achieve geographicinformation sharing. 3. Taking Beijing as an example, implement the basic functions for the commonplatform of the geographic information.
